The Macallan has launched a Carta Nautica retail experience at Singapore Changi Airport, the first in global travel retail. Designed by independent creative agency NiCE, the experience has been conceived around three key traveller touchpoints: tasting, product discovery and gifting.
Derived from the Spanish term for ‘nautical chart’, Carta Nautica traces the voyage of The Macallan’s oak staves and casks across the Atlantic Ocean, from North America to Jerez de la Frontera and Scotland, before arriving at The Macallan Estate.

NiCE worked with The Macallan to translate the campaign’s underwater-inspired world and artwork by artist Amy Genser into a retail concept that can be adapted for further travel retail locations.
The result is a deep blue environment of layered architecture, coral-inspired elements and organic niches. A translucent blue frontage draws travellers in from the concourse, while a sculptural bar anchors the space inside. The Macallan’s signature red signposts key products and moments, creating a sensorial journey into the brand’s story.
“In an airport you are designing two things at once: something open enough to pull people in from the concourse, and something enclosed enough to feel like another world once they are inside. The translucent frontage lets travellers see into the blue while keeping that sense of discovery,” said Achille Lenglemetz, Creative Managing Director, NiCE.
The Changi installation is a temporary activation and forms part of The Macallan’s wider Carta Nautica travel retail programme, which also spans media, PR, permanent retail and education.
The Carta Nautica experience opens at Changi Airport on 28th September 2026 in Terminal 3 for two months, before continuing its voyage to Terminal 2 for an additional two months.
