As commercial interior designers and fit-out specialists continue to seek materials that combine aesthetics with practicality, brick slip systems continue being used to bring the character of traditional brickwork into modern retail and commercial spaces.
A recent project at the new UNIQLO store in Cabots Circus, Bristol, demonstrates how brick slips can be used to create striking interior features while overcoming many of the challenges associated with conventional masonry construction.
For the retailer’s first South West store, approximately 175m² of Eurobrick’s I-Clad system was installed with Classic range Topaz brick slips and matching corners. Working with contractor UC Build Ltd and installer ML Brickwork (Southern), the system was used primarily within the store’s central stairwell, as well as on feature wall areas in the two-storey retail space.
The result is an authentic brick finish that adds warmth, texture and visual interest to the contemporary store environment.
While exposed brickwork remains a popular design choice across retail, hospitality, leisure and workplace projects, achieving the look using traditional construction methods is not always practical. Space constraints, structural limitations, installation programmes and refurbishment requirements can all make full masonry construction difficult to accommodate.
Interior brick slip systems offer an alternative approach, delivering the appearance and texture of real brickwork in a slim, lightweight format. Because the systems require significantly less depth than traditional brickwork, they help maximise valuable internal floor space.
I-Clad has been developed specifically for interior applications and is suitable for commercial environments, including retail stores, restaurants, offices, leisure facilities and public spaces. The system provides a durable, low-maintenance finish that is designed to withstand the demands of busy customer-facing environments while offering the design flexibility needed to create standout feature walls, stairwells and focal points.
The UNIQLO Bristol project highlights the role that brick slip systems can play in contemporary interior design, enabling architects, designers and contractors to achieve the timeless appeal of brick without the compromises often associated with traditional masonry construction.
As designers of commercial spaces increasingly focus on creating memorable environments and enhancing customer experience, solutions that combine authenticity, practicality and efficient installation are becoming ever more important.
